  • [링글 복습] I posit that vs. I think that
    미묘한 영어 2022. 8. 12. 07:07

What is the difference between 'posit' and 'think'?

'Posit' and 'think' are interchangeable sometimes. Still, the main difference is that 'think' is a) simpler b) centers on the person (what they think), whereas 'posit' is a) more advanced vocabulary and b) more about the suggestion or the thought being made/put forward (rather than the individual suggesting it).

Posit = more like a suggestion/debate-point, something being pointed out to others to consider. It is more along the lines of "I argue that X" rather than "I think X" (which is less about putting forward an argument and more about sharing that person's personal opinion).

For example, Kim K appropriates the features and culture of Black people to gain social capital. But she doesn't have to face the racism of people with those features, so it is part of colonial thinking and behavior.

(similar to uncertain, unsure, has mixed feelings or doesn't care that much either way)
