지나가는 유행

fad 라고만 해도 같은 의미이다. trend 보다는 유행의 기간이 짧고 일시적인것을 가리킨다.

 

I hope this "man bun" thing is a passing fad. It looks silly.

 

Wearing mismatched socks was a passing fad among elementary school students.

 

 

on the sidelines

직접 관여하지 않고 옆에서 구경하는 (지켜보는)

자발적으로 옆으로 빠져있기도 하고, 어쩔수 없이 도태되거나 외면받는다는 뜻으로도 쓰는것 같다.

 

Those who rejected quiet quitting now would be tomorrow's leaders, and those who embraced it would be left on the sidelines.

조용한 퇴사를 거부하는 자들은 내일의 리더가 될것이고, 그걸 수용하는 자들은 외면받을것이다.

 

I thought  Chad was going to ask you to be his best man.

Nope. He asked Pete. So I'm left on the sidelines watching them plan everything.

아니. 피트에게 부탁했어. 그래서 나는 옆에서 빠져서 그들끼리 다 계획하는걸 보고 있어.

pour in

쏟아지다(쏟아져 들어오다)

pour는 그자체로도 동사이지만, come pouring in 이라고 해도 거의 같은 의미이다.

 

An hour after I posted it, the resume came pouring in.

그걸 올린지(게시한지) 한시간뒤에 이력서가 쏟아져 들어왔다.

 

They're pouring in by the hundreds.

수백명이 몰려들어오고 있다.

 

The calls came pouring in when people thought they saw a UFO.

사람들이 UFO를 보았다고 생각했을때 전화가 빗발쳤다

resume에 포함되지 않는 내용을 cover letter에 어필할수 있다.

 

resume 와는 별도로  resume에 같이 붙여서 내는 자기소개서 이다. 내가 왜 그 자리에 적합한지를 어필하는 글이다.
