화면으로 보거나 다른 사람을 통해 전해듣는 것이 아니고, 직접 대면해서 경험하거나 만나는 걸 말합니다.

사람뿐만 아니라 사물에도 쓸수 있습니다.

2.  bitter

 
something that causes pain or unhappiness either physically or emotionally
 
불쾌한, 억울한
 

bitter 는 커피나 다크 초콜릿처럼 쓴맛을 나타내는 형용사로 잘 알고 있습니다.
보통 맛이나 감정, 성격 등이 불쾌하거나 참기힘들다는 의미로도 사용됩니다.

예를들어  연인과 헤어졌거나 직업을 잃었을때 느끼는 감정을 bitter 라고 할수 있는데,  안좋은 과거의 기억을 잊지 못해서 억울해하거나 화가 나있고, 행복하지 않은 상태라는 의미입니다.

성격을 bitter라고 묘사하면 과거의 부정적인 기억에 사로잡혀 있거나, 남을 잘 못믿고, 비난하려고 하는 사람을 가리키는 말이 됩니다.

bitter는 날씨가 혹독하게 춥다는 의미로도 씁니다.

trifle with 은 하찮게 보다, 우습게 보다라는 의미입니다.

익명의 초대장은 가볍게 여길일이 아닙니다.
 
 
 
 
This animal is not to be trifled with.
 
이 동물은 가볍게 여길 동물이 아니다.  (위험한 동물이니 조심하라는 의미입니다.)

A feeling of calm satisfaction  with your own situation that prevents you from trying harder

 
 
 

열심히 무엇을 추구하지 않고 현재상태에 만족하는 것을 의미합니다.

부정적인 어감(negative connotation)을 가진 단어로, 사람한테 쓰면 더 성장하거나 발전하고 싶지 않고 현재 상태를 유지하고 싶어하는 사람이라는 의미입니다.
